Start with the three audiences

A company usually gifts three groups at Onam and they are not the same brief. Employees, who receive a personal hamper that arrives at home. Clients and partners, who receive a considered gift that reflects the relationship. Leadership, board members and key advisers, who receive a smaller number of premium pieces. The employee hamper

For teams of twenty to two hundred, the employee hamper works best as a compact, shelf stable box with a personal note. A small kasavu towel or a folded kasavu napkin as the base cloth. A jar of banana chips, a jar of achappam, a small pack of Mysore pak or unniyappam sealed in food grade pouches, a bar of good filter coffee or a tin of chai, and a small brass diya. The whole box should weigh under one and a half kilograms so it ships easily to home addresses across the city. Skip alcohol and skip anything that needs refrigeration.

The client and partner hamper

Client hampers can carry a little more weight and a little more character. Layer in a hand poured brass lamp, a small piece of Aranmula kannadi wrapped in muslin, a jar of ghee cured Nendran chips, a small tin of loose leaf tea, and a folded kasavu stole in cream and gold. Present it in a rigid box with a jute or khadi wrap and a card in the sender's own handwriting. This tier should feel like a home gift, not a swag bag. Skip anything with a logo printed on it. The card carries the company, the hamper carries the season.

The leadership tier

For a small number of premium hampers, ten to thirty, the composition changes. A small brass uruli, a single strand of gold border kasavu, a jar of estate cardamom, a tin of first flush tea and a hand tied bunch of jasmine and marigold delivered the evening before Uthradam. This tier is best hand delivered inside the city rather than couriered, since the gesture is in the arrival, not the box.

Vegetarian, shelf stable and elder friendly

The safe default for corporate Onam is vegetarian, shelf stable at room temperature for at least three weeks, and gentle enough for elders in the recipient's family. Skip alcohol unless the company culture on both sides is comfortable with it. Skip strong perfumes, scented candles with heavy sillage, and anything that reads as a personal care gift. Personalisation without printing

The single element that lifts a corporate hamper is a handwritten card with the recipient's name and one specific sentence. Not a printed name tag, not a laser cut acrylic. A card in real ink, written the day before dispatch, addressed to the person and signed by a real leader in the company. Confirm the audience count and tier split by end of July. Freeze the hamper composition by 5 August. Share the address list by 5 August. Hampers begin dispatch from 18 August.
